Aerospatiale SA315B Lama

Prior to the AS350B3, the SA315B Lama was the “go-to” helicopter for high-altitude work.  Designed specifically for the hot-and-high environment of the Indian Armed Forces, the Lama was built around the Alouette concept but with a lighter airframe. First flown in 1969, the Lama quickly gained popularity among civilian operators around the world needing the high-altitude performance that it brought to the table.

Equipped with an 870 shp engine the Lama has an abundance of power and can easily carry a 2,200 lb. external payload over 10,000 feet.  While a bit slower than the A-Star at 119 knots, and carrying one less passenger, 4 vs 5, the Lama is still an extremely capable machine.
